Announcement: Imam Hussain Holy Shrine suspends congregational prayer until further notice

The administration of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has decided to suspend the daily congregational prayers in the courtyard until further notice, in accordance with the preventive instructions issued by the Karbala Department of Health, due to Iraq’s current health condition.

A statement by the administration read, “In accordance with the preventive instructions issued by the Karbala Department of Health and in order to preserve the safety of our honorable pilgrims, the administration of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announces the suspension of the congregational prayer until further notice.”

The statement concluded, "We ask the Almighty to remove this affliction and heal everyone. ‘Indeed, my Lord is near and responsive.’ (11:61)”

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani, had responded to a query on the ruling of praying in congregation in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

The query read, “What is the view of the Supreme Religious Authority regarding participating in congregational prayers in the days of coronavirus outbreak?

The response was as follows: “As gatherings were prohibited in order to limit the spread of coronavirus, this prohibition must be adhered to and taken seriously.
