The Engineering Department of the Imam Hussain Shrine has stated that they have so far completed 80% of the expansion project of the south gate of the shrine of Imam Hussain.

Salam Se’doon, executive engineer, said that the gate – the largest of all the gates of the shrine – has been expanded to let more pilgrims pass through during grand pilgrimages, and has become 12 meters wide.

He added that the walls of the gate were covered with veined marble, and the floor is now being covered with alabaster.
