The Sewing Unit of the Imam Hussain Shrine is the only party that sews the banners of the dome of the shrine.
The banner is replaced on the first day of every month in the Islamic calendar, 12 times a year.
The banner is 3.90 meters long and 3 meters wide, made of Korean or Japanese satin.
The Sewing Unit sews a black curtain and embroiders it with threads of gold and silver inlayed with emerald and corundum to replace the green one of Imam Hussain’s lattice-enclosed tomb, in addition to sewing mourning signs to be put on Habeeb Bin Mudhaher’s and Ibrahim Elmujab’s lattice-enclosed tombs.
Kereem Elembari – Maintenance Department Director – said that the Sewing Unit finished a black banner for this year, which is going to replace the red one in a stately ceremony on the first of Muharram.
