Fancy Dates at Fadak Farm

Fadak Farm is one of the most important strategic projects implemented by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine in the city of Karbala, where more than 16 thousand palm trees carry distinctive varieties of high quality dates with high economic value.

The director of the farm Engineer Faiz Abu al-Maali said, "The project of Fadak Date Palm Farm is one of the most important investment projects in Karbala because it contains rare varieties of dates."

The total area of the project is 500 hectares, where 16 thousand varieties of special dates such as Barhi, Maktoom, Mutuk, Shuweithi, Mir Haj and al-Jawzi were cultivated in the first phase of the project (125 hectares).

“These varieties of dates were selected because of their high value in the global and local market,” added Abu al-Maali.

The Engineer pointed out that the objective of the project is to provide employment for the unemployed, utilize and develop the agricultural sector in Karbala, as well as the strategic goal of preserving the good and rare varieties of Iraqi dates from extinction and the production of new varieties of dates.

The Arab varieties were imported from a French nursery operating in the UAE.

Fadak Date Palm Farm is one of the most important investment projects launched by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, located in the area of Razzaza and across from the Northern Greenbelt of Karbala Agriculture Directorate.
